Take Responsibility!
Have you ever gone into a pub and told the barman to give you a drink that they think you may like? Or have you ever gone into a shop and asked the shop assistant to sell you something they think would suit you? Of course you haven't as it would be a ridiculous thing to do.
However, have you ever sent a CV to a recruitment consultant with a covering letter that reads something along the lines of 'please consider me for any suitable vacancies you may have'?
Since the back end of last year I have been receiveing a lot of CVs from people who seem to think that I can read their minds and know what they want to do.
Come on people, take some responsibility for your careers and be decisive! I have no objection to receiving unsolicited CVs but for goodness sake give me some clue as to what sort of job you are looking for, what location, salary and so on. It is just plain lazy to send out bulk CVs in the vague hope someone will be so excited about your experience they will call you.
If you can't be bothered putting some effort into your career why expect anyone else to?
